A little about BCM...
As believers in Jesus Christ, wherever we are, our purpose remains the same: to grow in Christlikeness and share with everyone the hope of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Since God has placed each of us at the University of Montevallo, we are called to carry out that purpose on this campus. BCM seeks to be a community of encouragement and a place of equipping for believers to further understand their calling and walk in greater obedience.
The Leadership Team
Jacob has been serving as the campus minister at Montevallo’s Baptist Campus Ministries since 2017. He is a native of Montgomery, graduate of LaGrange College (B.A. in Religion and Music) and Beeson Divinity School (M.Div), and lover of all things involving frisbee. Along with his wife Brittany, his two sons Nash and Owen, and his daughter Annie, Jacob has been living in Montevallo since 2013, seeking to help college students grow in their faith in and obedience to Christ. He and his wife are members of Christ Central Church in Calera.
Karla has been serving as the BCM ministry assistant since 2016. She and her husband David are residents of Montevallo and members of Montevallo First Baptist where she leads the college ministry. Karla earned her Masters of Education from Montevallo in 1996. She also has a daughter (Sarah) who recently graduated from Montevallo, and a son (Johndavid) who currently attends and plays baseball for MUW. Students frequently stop by the BCM office for a cup of coffee and conversation with her. You should stop by too!
My name is Kelli Sellers, this year’s BCM President. I am a first-year graduate student working towards my Alternative Master’s in Collaborative Education (Special Education) (6-12) and attend Wilton Baptist Church. Being involved in the BCM has not only allowed me to gain lifelong friendships, but also has helped me grow in my personal relationship with the Lord and to step out of my comfort zone. I serve on the BCM Leadership Team because I love serving the Montevallo campus as well as helping students that attends BCM events feel a part of a community that encourages and cares about one another! A fun fact about me is that I DO NOT drink any sodas or teas, INCLUDING sweet tea.
Hi! My name is Madison Lawrence and I am a Junior Mathematics major at the University of Montevallo. I have been a part of our BCM for the past three years and have enjoyed every second of it. Being on the leadership team this year has allowed me take on responsibilities that I never thought I could do. For instance, I led a bible study! A fun fact about me is that I am from a tiny island in the Caribbean named St. Vincent and the Grenadines!
Hi, my name is Noah Terrell and I am a sophomore music education major. I am a member of First Baptist Church of Pinson. I joined the BCM leadership team to help spread the Gospel and glorify God in the process. A fun fact about me: I can almost say the alphabet backwards faster than I can forwards!
Hi everyone! 🙂 My name is Lauren Vick and I am a senior Elementary Education/Collaborative major. The BCM has been an integral part of my spiritual growth here in college and I am so excited to be serving this year. God has used the BCM to place me out of my comfort zone, teach me more about how to love as Christ loves, and give me opportunities to share the Hope of Christ with others. Ultimately, I am here to continue growing in the Lord and using what I have learned here to give back to this campus. A fun fact about me is that I dip my French fries in mayonnaise…Don’t knock it til you try it!
Yo! My name is Shai Hunter & I am a senior here at UM studying Family Consumer Sciences: Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS). I attend Westwood Baptist Church in Alabaster. The BCM has given me so much in my time here at Montevallo, including being a resident for 3 years, an outlet to use my voice on stage and in bible studies, serving on mission trips, a zeal for getting the Gospel to the nations, and being encouraged by other believers here on campus. Likewise, it is only appropriate to serve on leadership team in my final year as a student, especially during a pandemic where our light can be shown more than ever before. A fun fact about me is that I worked on a farm this past summer and I loved every minute of it!
Hi, I’m Julian Davis. I attend New Covenant Bible Church and I’m a senior marketing major with a love for storytelling. I decided to become a part of the Montevallo BCM leadership team because it’s my desire above all else to see people come to Christ wherever I go. I believe the Gospel is man’s only chance at being redeemed and made righteous before God. I’m excited to serve with the BCM this semester as we look forward to what God has in store for us and our ministry.
